They do very different things and we should start by saying so. Hunter finds email addresses and verifies individual mailboxes. We check the domain's authentication posture (SPF/DKIM/DMARC). Sometimes you need both.

This is the deliverability problem. A SaaS or ESP wants to monitor every sending domain. SPF/DKIM/DMARC misconfigurations are the #1 cause. Hunter doesn't check this. We do, in one call.
If you're monitoring 10,000 customer domains, calling Hunter doesn't make sense — they're not built for that. We are. $49/mo gets you 30k calls/day; that's plenty of headroom for daily monitoring of tens of thousands of domains.
Our 0-100 score + low/medium/high risk band is something you can put on a dashboard without parsing four separate records. Hunter's response is structured for "is this address valid" — a different question.
If your problem is "I need to find the right person to email at company X", Hunter is the answer. We don't do this.
If your problem is "this specific email address ([email protected]) — is the mailbox real?", Hunter does an SMTP check. We don't. We can tell you whether the domain is set up to receive email, but not whether a specific mailbox exists.
Hunter has been around since 2015. They have native integrations with every major CRM. We're new.
You send transactional or marketing email and you need to monitor your sending domain's authentication posture, or your customers' domains if you're an ESP.
You need to find or verify specific email addresses — outbound sales, lead gen, list cleaning.
Sales team uses Hunter to find and verify addresses. Deliverability team uses sitetrace to monitor the sending domain. Different tools, different problems.
